Indian Navy INET Exam - Eligibility, Selection Procedure, Syllabus

Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET) Exam is now officially announced by the Indian Navy for the officer's entry in the Indian Navy. Candidates who are looking for this INET Exam can go through this article for more details. For those who aren't aware of this exam, there is a short description of this exam for them. After getting approval for this exam from the Defence Ministry in the last month, the Indian Navy has finally pushed the notifications for the INET Exam.

Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET Exam) will be an online exam similar to that of Indian Navy used to recruit for officer candidate through NDA, CDS and few direct navy entries. This exam will open more gates for eligible candidates to join the Indian Navy as an Officer to serve the Nation. Similar to other direct entries like NDA, CDS, and few others, the candidates have to appear for SSB Interview which will be solely based upon the marks scored in the INET Exam.

Through INET, the Indian Navy will recruit candidates for the Naval Orientation Course (NOC) Regular – Pilot / Observer / Air Traffic Controller / Naval Armament Inspectorate Cadre / Logistics / Education / Information Technology / Technical (Engineering & Electrical).

Eligibility Criteria

(i).  Candidates who have passed Engineering Degree or are in the final year of Engineering Course in any of the above-mentioned disciplines from an AICTE recognized educational institute can apply for branches/entries indicated at Para 2 (a) - (e) & 2 (h) & 2 (j) (Educational Criteria).  The candidates will, however, be required to pass final examination (BE/B Tech) with a minimum 60% before joining INA.  The candidates failing to meet minimum cut off %age will not be permitted to join INA Ezhimala. 

(ii). Candidates who have completed their degree on the date of filing the application can apply for all Branches / Entries. 

(iii). Age Criteria as mentioned in the image attached in the Educational Criteria field for respective branches. 


Tenure Details 

(i). Short Service Commission Selected candidates will be granted Short Service Commission initially for 10 years extendable by maximum 04 years in 02 terms (02 years + 02 years), subject to service requirement, performance, medical eligibility and willingness of candidates. 

(ii). Permanent Commission. Candidates inducted under PC will have to serve for a minimum of 20 yrs for pension and thereafter can continue to serve till the age of superannuation.

Pay & Allowances

Selected candidates are inducted as Sub-lieutenants. The admissible pay & allowances along with other facilities & privileges are available on Indian Navy website www. joinindiannavy.gov.in.

Selection Procedure

➣ Only one application is to be filled by a candidate.

➣ Candidates who are eligible for more than one Branch/Cadre should mention their preferences in the application so as to be considered for other choices in case of slots for SSBs in entries of their first choice are filled.

➣ Candidates will be shortlisted for SSB based on their INET rank and their preference of choice.
However, if not shortlisted for the first preference you may be considered for alternate Branch/Cadre subject to availability of spare slots in SSB batches of that Branch/Cadre.

➣ Once shortlisted for a Branch/Cadre, subsequent stages of the selection process (SSB, medicals & meriting) will be exclusively for that Branch/Cadre only.

➣ No equivalent stream of BE/ B.Tech other than that mentioned will be considered valid for the selection process at any stage.

➣  SSB interview will be conducted in two stages.  Candidates who clear Stage I will go to Stage II.  Those who fail in Stage I will be sent back on the same date. For more detail of the SSB Procedure visit to www.joinindiannavy.gov.in.

➣ After getting recommended in the SSB, candidates will be sent through Medical examination as applicable to their entry.  Candidates of Pilot entry are required to undergo PABT (Pilot aptitude battery test) followed by Aviation medical examination.

➣  Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit will be appointed for training as per all India merit of each branch/cadre based on the availability of the number of vacancies in various branches/cadres.


Application Details

➣ The online application of INET Exam will commence on 18th May 2019 and will end on 29th May 2019.

➣  Candidates (SC/ST/Women candidates are exempted from payment of fees) are required to pay a fee of Rs 205/- (Rupees Two Hundred five only) through online mode.

➣  Admit card will be issued for the examination only to those candidates who have successfully paid the examination fee and who are entitled to waiver of examination fee. The Admit Card will be downloaded from the official website www.joinindiannavy.gov.in tentatively by the second week of Aug 19.

Examination Details

➣ The INET Exam will be conducted on September at one of the INET centers as per their choice, subject to availability of slots at that center.

➣ INET exam will be of two hours duration. It will contain 100 Multiple Choice Questions comprising Questions on English, Reasoning & Numerical Ability, General Science, Mathematical Aptitude & General Knowledge. 

➣ Each section will carry 100 marks with negative marking of one mark for incorrect answer.

  5. In the preference , GS(engineering) and some others aren't available for me . May I know why ?
